The Abbey String Quartet will help create an elegant and sophisticated ambience for your corporate event, be it for a product launch, promotional event, a dinner or ball, a charity event or any other kind of function. As for receptions and parties, our repertoire includes a wide range of music which can be adapted to suit a range of events to entertain your clients, employees and guests.

The Abbey String Quartet has a history of successful concerts under its belt and a substantial concert programme to offer. Our first ever concert was a programme of early English music performed at the famous 11th century Cistercian Abbey in Abbeydore near Hereford, and it is from this event that the group takes its name. From renowned works by Bach and Mozart to popular light pieces and jazz, our programme will be tailored to suit the occasion. We are also available to perform concerts in schools in South Wales and provide educational workshops pertaining to the National Curriculum. Please see our education section for more information.

The Abbey String Quartet and its individual members are available for recording sessions. We have experience playing for numerous recordings both as a quartet and as separate performers, including works by local composers and radio shows. Please visit our listen page to hear samples of our recordings and contact us to discuss your requirements.
New Music – we also welcome enquiries from composers who are looking to have their music performed or recorded.

As well as our work as performers, all members of the Abbey String Quartet are teachers of music and their instruments. We are passionate about encouraging young people to learn music and about passing on our skills to the next generation. To this end, we have developed our own unique education programme to be presented at schools in a fun and engaging way; this can be adapted for all school ages at any level.
Our current ‘Bach to the Blues’ project is manifest as a complete single performance lasting approximately 50 minutes. The programme consists of a series of short, well-known pieces presented in a polished and entertaining manner.
For an audience of junior children this will form an informative and enjoyable part of their music education; for older children, the concert is tailored to complement the outline and principle criteria of the National Curriculum for music. The pieces are staged chronologically, moving through the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern and Post-modern periods. We will therefore begin the programme with Bach and finish with the blues, followed by a relaxed question and answer session.
We also offer a series of subsequent workshops appropriate to GCSE and A-level where we explore the different periods of music in more detail. In addition, we are available to provide workshops in composition and performance, as well as ensemble coaching.
